High temperatures, sandals and sundresses are all signs of summertime. Although it’s easy to spend the entire season catching up on sun and sleep, let’s choose to be productive too.

START WITH A SCHEDULE

Start with a schedule because “time flies when you’re having fun,” right?

Creating a schedule will ensure success in achieving goals this summer. Start with an important date or event you can prepare for such as an upcoming conference, retreat or the start of a new semester.

UPDATE PROFESSIONAL DOCUMENTS

Next, update professional documents like your résumé; add accomplishments or experience. I’m sure your Linked In Profile could also use a boost. Change your headline, adjust dates or enhance your summary. Review your portfolio, add projects from the end of the year or remove outdated work samples.

MASTER A NEW SKILL

With the abundance of resources to learn and grow online there are endless opportunities to explore and develop new skills that can enhance your personal or professional value. Using skills you don't employ often is also a great alternative.

MAXIMIZE OPPORTUNITIES

Maximize opportunities to gain experience or get involved. View the event calendars of local professional organizations such as the Public Relations Society of America. Volunteer for upcoming events such as back-to-school drives or summer socials.

EMPLOY SKILLS

Use your skillset, old and new. Plan an event, write a guest blog post, design an invitation. Use your skills for things you enjoy outside of your professional responsibilities.

REST

Finally, don’t forget to rest. Although you may not have months off from work, summer is a great time to recover from a busy season ahead. Take a nap. Relax by the beach. Treat yourself to a massage or spa day.E
